Bangkok Solo Exhibition The background of the exhibition, which began with a new venue and connections.

What prompted or led to this solo exhibition?

This gallery was originally located in Taipei, Taiwan, but when it opened a new location in Bangkok, I became acquainted with the gallery's representative, and the idea of a solo exhibition came up. I had experience exhibiting in Taiwan, Shanghai, and Tokyo, but this would have been my first solo exhibition in Thailand, so I was interested in it as a new market. Furthermore, my brother, who runs an antique business, had just moved to Thailand, so I felt a connection and decided to take on the challenge. At first, I was imagining what the atmosphere would be like in a new place, and thinking about how my artwork would be received by the local people.

Flowers and Space An experience that allows you to feel the life of flowers through tranquility and color.

What kind of experience and activities did you hope visitors would have?

Clent Yuchun

While my previous flower series mainly featured subdued colors, this time, in the new setting of Thailand, I've used vivid colors to express the blooming of flowers. The gallery space is a quiet place without natural light, so I think viewers will be able to directly feel the life of the flowers in a way that's different from how they usually see them outdoors. I wanted viewers to be able to face the artwork in a quiet space and spend time with it at their own pace.

Words and communication methods Consideration and ingenuity for cultural and linguistic differences

As you were preparing and setting up the exhibition, were there any doubts or things you had to adjust?

Clent Yuchun

The biggest challenge was communication. Up until now, my exhibitions have mainly been in countries that use Chinese characters, such as Taiwan, China, and Tokyo, but Chinese characters are not used in the main language of Thailand. Although there are many overseas Chinese in Thailand, I felt a language barrier, so I prepared a video explaining the creative process in advance. I have collectors in Taiwan and Shanghai, but I am hardly known in Thailand, so I wanted people to know a little about me before seeing my work, and I tried to be creative in how I communicated.

What was the one thing you kept in the exhibition until the very end, without cutting anything out?

Clent Yuchun

I haven't changed my style, which I consider to be my artistic identity. My previous works, such as the holly monster series, tree trunks, waves, and this flower series, all employ a style that lies somewhere between concrete and abstract. I consciously leave room for the viewer to interpret the work as they see fit. I avoided over-explaining and valued the space for viewers to interpret at their own pace.

Who would you like to share this solo exhibition with in the future?

Clent Yuchun

First and foremost, I want people in Thailand to see my work. I would also be happy if those who cannot come to Thailand could view my work through the gallery's Instagram and other social media channels. I hope that my work will continue to reach people in different places at a comfortable distance.
