As a bio-venture consultant, I value integrity in situations where multiple perspectives and opinions intersect. At my current company, I strive to support clients from both a scientific expertise and business development perspective, helping them to organize chaotic situations and find the next step.
Work ethic
Why did you decide to organize the chaos and prioritize communication?
Rika Tajima
I believe it's crucial to first organize the overall picture before taking action in complex situations or when conflicting interests are involved. Especially in the biotech venture field, various stakeholders are involved, and opinions and values often differ, making it difficult to move forward without addressing these differences. Therefore, I consciously try to organize chaotic information and emotions into an easily understandable format and create a forum for dialogue where all parties involved can reach an agreement. I believe this approach ultimately leads to the advancement of projects and the building of trust.
origin
Please tell me about the formative experience that led you to start this job.
Rika Tajima
I've always had a strong interest in science fields that concern human lives. Through my work at a major pharmaceutical company and my experience as COO and CEO of a biotech venture, I came to realize the social significance and heavy responsibility that science carries. These experiences were a major reason why I chose to be involved in this field as a consultant. I feel that my experiences in the field form the foundation of my actions and values.
turning point
What events have led to changes in your way of thinking or behavior?
Rika Tajima
I used to think that people would be moved if I presented them with a correct theory. However, I realized that in reality, simply stating the correct argument often fails to reach the other person and doesn't convince them. Through these experiences, I came to believe that it's important to demonstrate not only with words but also with actions, and to carefully explain why those actions are important. Now, I am conscious of communicating in a way and process that is easy for others to understand and accept.
life
Please tell us how you spend your holidays and what that time brings you.
Rika Tajima
On my days off, I take oil painting lessons to take a break from my daily work and thoughts. The time I spend painting is a precious moment when my mind becomes empty and I can relax without any distractions. Having such time creates mental space, and I feel like I can gain a new perspective and energy when I return to work. It's an important way for me to reset.
future
What kind of people would you like to work with in the future?
Rika Tajima
Going forward, I want to work with people who possess cutting-edge scientific expertise and a strong desire to use it to benefit human health. The process of social implementation is often challenging, but I want to cherish the encounters with colleagues who can cooperate towards the same goal. I want to continue working with such people to create new value.
