What do you pay attention to in your daily communication and decision-making?

Kishin Baba

I make a conscious effort to listen carefully to what the other person is saying. While doing so, I try to imagine as much as possible what they are thinking and how they feel as we talk. I also try to imagine their reactions and think about how I should respond, so that the conversation becomes enjoyable. I feel that by empathizing with the other person's position and feelings, natural communication is born.

Please tell us about the interests or formative experiences that led to your current job.

Kishin Baba

I've always loved music, and when I was in junior high and high school, I enjoyed looking at CD jackets at TSUTAYA. I was drawn to the design and visual beauty of the jackets, and I think that naturally nurtured my aesthetic sense and attention to detail. Through music, I became interested in design, and I feel that experience is now reflected in my work.

Have you had any experiences or things you are conscious of that changed your way of thinking as a designer?

Kishin Baba

I used to be attracted to creating unique designs that I personally thought were good, but as I worked as a product designer, I came to realize the importance of properly reflecting user interviews and customer issues. I especially value the real voices of users, and I try to incorporate the insights gained from them into the product, aiming for designs that are truly used in daily life. I make it a point not to rely solely on my own sensibilities, but to incorporate actual feedback.

How I Spend My Days Off

Please tell us how you spend your time off or refresh yourself.

Kishin Baba

After work or on my days off, I value the time I spend sitting on a bench in the park reading a book. Since I usually interact with digital things a lot, I consciously try to incorporate analog experiences like being in nature or talking with people. When it comes to music, I don't just use streaming services; I also go to record shops and choose records by their jackets, cherishing offline pleasures as well.

I hope to build relationships where open and flat communication is possible. I want to value discussions and encounters with people regardless of industry or occupation, without being bound by positions. Going forward, I want to keep exploring ways of connecting with others while delving into themes that increase opportunities for people to meet.
